Our Dance Form
Tribal
bellydance is an amalgamation of styles from India, North Africa,
Spain, and the Middle East. Elements of Flamenco, classical Indian, and Raqs Sharqi are often used in creating the vocabulary.
Music can range from traditional Ghawazee folk songs and rhythms to
modern industrial compositions. Finger cymbals (zils) are commonly
played by the dancers as a natural accompaniment.
TerraNova Tribal follows the American Tribal Style (ATS) formulated by California's FatChanceBellyDance®. ATS is an improvisational style in which dancers share a common set of movements (or "dance language"), and follow subtle cues given by alternating lead dancers. The joy of this style is found in the unchoreographed and egalitarian interaction within the tribe of dancers. Our ATS instructors are graduates of FatChanceBellyDance General Skills and Teacher Training.
We love to share our dance through performance as well as instruction, and hope that you can join us at our next show or class session!
